Time to get out of bed?

Nearly two years ago on the official Opening Day the story seemed told, but now we have a new fight on our hands, so somewhat reluctantly I have thrown back the covers, and am ready to put my toe in the water.

Comeback: A local action group was prompted to raise funds to rebuild it, along with a £11.4million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund

(Should there be a competition for the most cliched blog posting, 2018, this should win it!)

  • 2007.  A campaigning group called the Friends of Hastings Pier was started.
  • 2008. The Friends of Hastings Pier were reconstituted as the Hastings Pier & White Rock Trust, a charitable company, so that it could seek funding.
  • 2012. Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) awards a grant of £11.4 million 2013 – HPWRT (Hastings Pier & White Rock Trust) hand over to Hastings Pier Charity
  • 2014.  Pier Hub opens, providing information on the reconstruction, plans for the future, including landing stage, and learning and education facilities.
  • 2016.  Pier opens
  • 2017.  Wins Pier of the Year; Wins the Stirling Prize; Trustees resign and Pier goes into Administration.
  • 2018.  The Friends of Hastings Pier (FOHP) is re-established a decade after it handed the baton of the People’s Pier to the Hastings Pier & White Rock Trust which later set up the Hastings Pier Charity.
The Friends are shareholders and supporters who want to be active and constructive in this second crisis for our pier.

Friends of Hastings Pier need at least £1m for the Administrators of Hastings Pier to progress their community bid.
